The 5 Types of Wealth

When we think of wealth, we mostly think of financial wealth.   Actually, financial wealth is only one aspect of what makes one “wealthy”.

When I first discovered Sahil Bloom’s best-selling book, The 5 Types of Wealth, earlier this year, I didn’t appreciate that it had just been published in early 2025!

The book has made such a big impression on me that I’ve already read the book twice!

In his book, Bloom redefines success/wealth beyond just money, focusing on five key areas:  Time, Social, Mental, Physical and finally Financial Wealth.

Think about it.  If you were to be introspective for a moment and wanted to define what kind of wealth you would want to have in your life now, and into the future, what if you considered and planned for all five of these five areas:

  • Time – You mindfully planned your days, weeks, months and years, so that you had  control of and balance in what you spent your time doing:  whether it is working, spending time with family, exercising or traveling, imagine a life that was intentional.
  • Social – Are you able to spend time with those who are important to you and doing what you enjoy? Whether it is family, friends, work colleagues, making new acquaintances or attending concerts or enjoying art galleries, are you able to be intentional about your relationships?
  • Mental – Is your mind clear, sharp and capable right now? Are you feeling positive or are you sad? Do you have enough downtime and space to make sure you have the mental clarity you want and deserve?
  • Physical – Is your physical capability and agility the same as your chronological age? Or do you take great care of yourself so that you seem younger than your age, or do you prioritize other aspects of your life and now you have become tired, slow and aged beyond your years?
  • Financial – Do you do everything based on saving for retirement, or do you have a financial plan that allows you to enjoy your life now and also includes a plan for your future?

As we are heading into the last two weeks of the year, many of us will be thinking about our goals for 2026. Please don’t call your list “new year’s resolutions”…because most resolutions fall by the wayside within a few weeks.

Do yourself a favor and either order Sahil Blooms’ book or download it on Audible so you can listen to it on your drive or on an upcoming plane flight or long walk.

Start with 4 or 5 goals or priorities you have in each of the five areas.

How will you spend your time?  Who will you spend your time with? Will you give yourself space for mental rest and time for creativity?  Will you prioritize your physical health (many of us prioritize others and put ourselves last – reconsider reversing that)?  Can you find a balance between saving for your future and enjoying your life now?

If not now, when? If not you, who? If you need help or support – don’t be afraid to ask. It is not a sign of weakness to ask for help – it is actually a sign of strength.

Wishing you a healthy and wealthy 2026!
